Through this book was the first official time that her story was told.
As a grandmother, she wrote down all of her memories that had been untouched by anyone else's memories or opinions. She refrained from learning about other people's experiences lest her own personal memories would become faint and mixed with others.
After she fled to the United States she never spoke of her experience and in later years refused to watch or read anyone else's stories and histories of their differing experiences of the holocaust. This history is told by Lorissa Wilfong Holt, who experienced first-hand the horrific story of war in Europe. I know that by being familiar with history and the events that take place preceding major events, we are less likely to repeat those historical catastrophes. While it was a very sad time in history, I enjoy learning about this time of hear probably because of the historical significance of it.
